A "Lamp" Into Our Hands... At Last!

How's THIS for exquisite timing?  In his comment on my "DuckTales Valentine" post, longtime N&V watcher "kenisu" mentioned that DuckTales: The Movie is, at long last, slated for general DVD release in January 2015 through Walt Disney Home Entertainment.  Here's the announcement on Amazon.

What a long, strange trip it's been as we've waited for this long, long-overdue release.  Hopefully, we'll be rewarded for our patience with some extras.  Then again, as the Genie (and you know which Genie I'm talking about in this context) said, there are wishes, and then, there are miracles...

Great! Now, where's the rest of the series?

Joe,

Good question! If DTTM sells well, you would think that Disney would have sufficient economic motivation to put out the remaining episodes in general DVD release format.

"Of course, I've been wrong BEFORE..."

I already have a copy of the movie that I got through Disney Movie Rewards, but it's really great to hear it's coming to general release!
Like Joe, I'd also like to see a volmume 4 box set. I was at Sam's Club a few weeks ago and I saw a 25th anniversary edition of volume 1, in a regular DVD case instead of a box. It was cool to see, but when I thought about it later, I wondered why Disney chose to simply re-release volume 1 for the 25th anniversary instead of releasing a volume 4. They had the perfect opportunity.
It would also be great if they released a complete soundtrack, with all the background music... but who knows if they've even considered it.

Can't believe they just release it next year in America! You can buy it really easily in Germany(picked mine up for under 10 bucks).
But I really hope that the release next year will have some good bonus materials!
The DVD that I have has pretty much nothing(just a stupid game).
Really hope there will be bonus material such as Interviews, Model sheets, character development, deleted scenes, etc. If the american release has some interesting bonus stuff, I will gladly pick up another DVD.

Freshyfresh,

Well, I'm a little nervous due to the fact that the Amazon price for the DVD is $9.99. That suggests that this MAY be one of those bare-bones releases. I will continue to hope, however.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary by rereleasing Volume 1 in CHEAPER packaging... certainly makes little sense to me. If you are going to celebrate an anniversary AT ALL, I think that priority should go towards completing the series, no?

Still weird that the movie gets released so late here. You would think they would take the time to gather the material together.:T

This is one of my favourite movies in my childhood and when I watched it again it is still as good as I remembered, even since I work in animation.
Really makes me sad that I can't find anything special online(like model sheets, rejected designs, deleted scenes, rough animation, etc).

Interesting to know that the movie is longer.
I'm sure all those scenes and other goodies are somewhere in some archive(unless something happened to it). Would love to see all those goodies!

@ Kenisu: How much material(in minutes) were missing?

And the OST would be nice too(signed the petition).
