Stevenson 48, Misericordia 3; Lebanon Valley 30, Stevenson 6

A tale of two weekends: After smashing hapless Misericordia last Saturday, Stevenson was itself squashed by nationally ranked Lebanon Valley yesterday.

The Cougars actually put up a better show than the ultimate 48-3 count indicated.  It was 10-3 at halftime and 17-3 after three quarters.  A Mustang pick and TD at the start of the fourth stanza opened the floodgates for 31 unanswered SU points in the final 15 minutes.  The closing seconds were displeasing to some of us in the stands, as some knuckleheaded staffer on the Mustangs' bench started mocking the Cougars with the Florida State Seminole chop.  Aside from making absolutely no sense in context, it was a shoddy display of sportsmanship.  Happily, the gesture was greeted with no small number of boos.

SU was never really in the game against LVC as the #22 Dutchmen took a 17-0 first-quarter lead.  Hopefully, the Mustangs will put up a better effort on the 15th as they aim for that first-ever .500 season at home against Lycoming.

  1. Low-level college football seems to result in more ludicrously lopsided results than just about anything.

  2. Geo,

I wouldn't call THESE ludicrously lopsided. Every division of NCAA football has matchups between powers and patsies resulting in much more lopsided scores than these.
