Stevenson 55, FDU-Florham 22

Last night, up at Madison, NJ, the Mustangs reached 3-0 with a convincing win over FDU-Florham.  The teams exchanged scores throughout the first half, and it was a six-point game at the break, but SU then tightened its defensive shoes (an awkward, but appropriate, metaphor) and shut the Devils out the rest of the way while scoring 27 second-half points.  The Mustangs set a school record for points scored in a game, racked up 300 rushing yards, and did not allow a sack for the third straight game.

Now comes the real test: games against Delaware Valley (road) and Widener (home) during the next two weeks.  These teams are the top duo in the conference and have thrashed SU every time they have played.  Even a 1-1 split would seem to be a lot to hope for under the circs, but this team has already surpassed expectations.

Stevenson's rise is starting to get a little national attention: witness this column on D3football.com.
