Happy New Year's, Chris (and all)! Here's hoping that, in 2012, I catch up on watching Kimba, and reading all of the episode reviews that you wrote in 2011! :)
It makes sense that Tezuka was a Barks fan; I've read that Tezuka held Disney-in-general in high esteem, and for whatever reason, I can see him voraciously perusing each and every last animated film that he can. And since he was so dedicated to, and passionate about, his craft, of course he'd recognize Barks' mastery, and sense the "heart" in his work! Still, as conceivable as his admiration is, it's delightful to learn that Barks was recognized with such admiration and respect from one of his, for all intents and purposes, peers.
On the other hand, Barks had a reputation for being something of a hermit, and from what I've gleamed, he tended to regard new comics and cartoons with skepticism, wariness, and disinterest. Perhaps he received this card, raised an eyebrow, and never gave it further thought!
...that may literally be the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life.
ReplyDeleteIt still brings the warm fuzzies to my heart. I wonder if Barks ever actually read Tezuka, or would he have just been baffled by it.
