Audiences are willing to ignore the fact that if they've seen Megamind, Shreck, A Bug's Life, Antz, Toy Story, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc., they've seen Wreck-It Ralph already.

Plus...it's a nice-lookin' movie. :)Comicbookrehabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09363501054869978524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357793224370188597.post-55380804176893164842012-11-30T20:14:46.780-05:002012-11-30T20:14:46.780-05:00CBR,

Well, there have been worse choices for continuations (I'm looking at you, CARS).

Richard,

It just seemed strange to me that, given the movie's obvious nostalgic bent, Ralph didn't visit more virtual worlds. Remember how many paintings Darkwing and the gang got to visit in "A Brush with Oblivion." Of course, what works in a quick-paced, 22-minute cartoon may not work so well in a feature-length film, where attention must be paid to "setting atmosphere" and the like.

ChrisChris Barathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06845538037091279990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357793224370188597.post-1988686898545669472012-11-27T10:40:32.490-05:002012-11-27T10:40:32.490-05:00I think the appeal of what is commonly refered to ...I think the appeal of what is commonly refered to as flat "8-bit" video games from the 80s is that they clearly LOOK like they were assembled using basic computer graphics software. Today, most video games use the same technology as the movies, with 3D designs and interactive 360 degree environments. The "Fi-It Felix Jr." game is clearly modeled after Donkey Kong (which was initially conceived as a Popeye video game), while "Hero's Duty" is a mish-mash of the "Metroid Prime" and "Halo" series. "Sugar Rush" is taken from a lot of the "MarioKart" immitators that were frequent in the last decade - Like "Cartoon Network Racing" and "Star Wars: Super Bombad Racers" - the best of which was "MarioKart DoubleDash".
As for the celebrity cameos - it's not a bad thing, really. Q*Bert, Bowser, the Pac-Man ghost and Sonic stand out, but it took a while to remember the Russian guy from "Street Fighter 2". I know they wanted to include Mario and Luigi, but Nintendo turned them down, plus the filmakers admitted they wouldn't know how to use them effectively in the film. Maybe they'll appear in the sequel.Comicbookrehabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09363501054869978524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4357793224370188597.post-51064419216778545822012-11-25T15:39:08.840-05:002012-11-25T15:39:08.840-05:00Hello, Chris:

I agree that the "potty humor" was out of place, except (perhaps) for the comments by Sergeant Calhoun just before the troops go into action with Ralph among them. I understand that sergeants talk that way at times.

The late Ed Wynn was wonderful as the Mad Hatter, and the King Candy "sound-alike" in this movie is both a fine homage to Wynn and a beautifully appropriate voice for the king. It helps to lull the audience into accepting King Candy as a silly, not-so-important guy, which of course, he isn't.

I often saw Ed Wynn on TV years ago, and his style of comedy was just as whimsical as he was as the Mad Hatter.

There is one thing to consider about the amount of the film spent in the Sugar Rush game. Since the villain of this film comes from an auto-racing game, wouldn't he be likely to seek out and infest some other auto-racing game? It seemed pretty logical to me.

It's a Very Good Movie and I recommend it to everyone.Richard Smyersnoreply@blogger.com
