Finally, some Disney TV- and comics-related information to pass along... IMHO, rather in the manner of passing a kidney stone, but that's just me...
Open Vault Disney, the Disney Movie Club is now taking pre-orders for two 27-episode sets of Goof Troop DVDs. The funny thing is, I went to DMC, did a search, but couldn't find the sets listed anywhere. Perhaps I looked in the wrong place, but maybe someone can retrace my footsteps and find them.
This is the first real "movement" on the Disney Afternoon DVD front that we've seen for some time. With Disney apparently terminally uninterested in completing the mass-market releases of DuckTales, Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, and Darkwing Duck, I certainly wouldn't be displeased if we could at least get limited releases of the remaining episodes through DMC. Other studios, such as Warner Bros., have enjoyed some success with similar boutique-release policies. The fact that DMC is only offering 54 of the 78 Goof Troop eps in these packages, however, is cause for concern. Is this going to be another instance of Disney simply throwing a few DVD sets out there just for the sake of doing so and not bothering to complete the total series release? If these things are going to be limited-release offerings anyway, then what is the point of only releasing a portion of the series?
The "friendship-focused" MINNIE AND DAISY mag seems to me to be an attempt to compete with the animated and print versions of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Good luck with that one. The one saving grace that I can see here is that "disposable celebrities
of the month" have not yet begun to share the cover with our gal pals. I repeat: not yet.
